Rev. Shar Burgess

Chaplain Shar Burgess has lived in the Twin Cities for over 40 years. It was God’s intervention that landed her in Minneapolis after growing up in the Chicago area. She spent many of her professional years working in Minneapolis in the corporate arena, and is currently also a professional jeweler, working in diamond sales and estate appraising.

My Story

Shar holds two Masters’ degrees:  one from the University of St. Thomas in Executive Management, and one from Bethel Seminary in Theological Studies (MTS). She completed 4 years of clinical pastoral education through ACPE after completing her Masters in Theology and is now a standing member with the Association of Professional Chaplains and is studying to become a Board-Certified Chaplain. As an endorsed, ordained, and commissioned Minnesota licensed clinical chaplain, she presently works at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in New Prague, MN.

Shar’s call to ministry came from her heart to help others who need to know the Lord through love, mercy, and compassion.  She supports those working through personal trauma, guides them through obstacles, and helps them discover their faith and form a relationship with Jesus Christ. Starting in 2008, Shar has travelled on mission trips with Westwood Community Church.  She has been to Honduras, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon. Being in outreach ministry led her to start visiting JICF at Pastor Michael’s request in 2007, bringing music to the church.

In addition to her pastoral duties with the church, Shar is currently part of the JICF Worship Team. She states that it is an encouraging, heartfelt journey to be at JICF as it is a mission that requires support, mercy, and grace. God is in all of those things and He has shown Shar many aspects of JICF that pull at her heart to serve. She is excited to see what lies in the future for JICF as it continues to grow in its outreach, sharing the love of Jesus Christ in the city and beyond.
